This is not all truth. The biggest claim and promotion made by sliming companies is that vitamin B12, a weight loss supplement, speeds up the metabolism rate.

They conclude that vitamin B12 helps you lose weight. The fact is B12 does help in metabolizing protein and fat but is not significant enough for total weight loss.

Doctors, scientists, and nutritionists have stated that those who receive supplements and vitamin B12 injections indeed lose weight. But this is not because of their increased B12 vitamins intake. It is actually due to a healthier diet and a more active lifestyle because they are conscious of losing those extra pounds.


Reasons Vitamin B12 Does Not Work for Weight Loss

Many have the misconception that taking vitamin B12 supplements help in losing weight. But this is not true at all. There are a few reasons why it does not work as weight loss supplements. Firstly, vitamin B12 is soluble in water. Our body needs at least three micrograms of B12 vitamin daily.

B12 supplements and shots usually contain hundreds or thousands of the vitamins, which are more than what the body actually needs. As B12 vitamin is water soluble, the body gets rid of the excess B12 if the body does not use.

Secondly, B12 supplements are not an efficient vitamin source as they are fermented. When taking the supplements, the body breaks down the multi-vitamins consumed. After the multi-vitamins are broken down by the body, the dosage of vitamin B12 you will get is smaller than that stated on the label.

For example, you took a multi-vitamin and on the label of the bottle, it claims to have 600 percent (1600 mg) of the B12 Recommended Daily Allowance. After your body finished breaking the multi-vitamin capsule down, it actually absorbs less than 3 micrograms. This is approximately 66 percent of RDA, which is not near the 600 percent that the label claims!
