D2 and D3 vitamin, a group of fat-soluble prohormones, are the major
types of vitamin D.
You can get it from supplements, food and sun exposure. It is inert
in biological terms. In order for vitamin D to be active inside the
body, it needs two hydroxylation reactions. The active form of vitamin
D in the body is known as Calcitriol.
The biological function of Vitamin D is to maintain the normal blood levels of phosphorus and calcium. It aids in calcium absorption, which then keeps and makes the bones strong. It helps fight against cancer, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, and some auto-immune diseases.
Insufficient
vitamin D intake results in brittleness, thinning, or bones deformation.
Inadequate sunlight exposure and intake at the same time result in disorders,
deficiencies, and conditions which weaken the conversion to active metabolites.
This causes liver or kidney disorders, or rare hereditary disorders.
Disorders can limit the absorption
of vitamin D. Deficiency causes bad bones mineralization which results
in osteomalacia in adults, rickets in children, and diseases that. It
causes osteoporosis also.

that contain vitamin D? Vitamin D natural sources are:
fish liver oils,
including cod liver (1 tbs/15ml provides 1,360 IU),
fatty fish species,
including herring (85g/3oz provides 1,383 IU),
catfish (85g/3oz provides 425 IU),
cooked salmon (100g/3.5oz provides 360 IU),
cooked mackerel (100g/3.5oz provides 345 IU),
drained canned sardines in oil (50g/1.75oz provides 250 IU),
canned tuna in oil (85g/3oz provides 200 IU),
cooked eel (100g/3.5oz provides 200 IU),
one whole egg provides 20 IU,
cooked beef liver (100g/3.5oz provides 15 IU),
and UV-irradiated mushrooms which provides D2 vitamin.
Recommended vitamin D consumption in USA is 400 IU. Typical diets provide only 100 IU. Taking 400 IU as the benchmark, the daily average milk consumption by the majority of the Americans is not enough. American Academy of Pediatrics considers this as insufficient: 200 IU of vitamin D consumption for kids to 50 years old daily, those aged 51-70 who consume 500 IU daily, and 600 IU of consumption daily for those aged 70 years and above. An intake of a minimum consumption of 400 IU is advised for children.
Insufficient intake of vitamin D causes deficiency.
What are the symptoms associated with vitamin D deficiency?
The normal symptoms are:
pain in the bones, and muscles weakness.
Even though most people experience subtle deficiency symptoms, these
two symptoms can surface. Not all vitamin D deficiency has symptoms.
It can result in risks to the health even without any signs and symptoms.
A low level of vitamin D in the blood can result in death caused by
cardiovascular disease, cancer, cognitive impairment in older adults,
and severe asthma in children.
D vitamin can treat and prevent various ailments, such as diabetes type 1 and type 2, hypertension, intolerance to glucose, and multiple sclerosis.
